After her ordeal with Marcus and Francis in the safe room, Zoey is now determined to risk it all to get away from the monsters; human and infected alike. But what waits for them isn't freedom, just more and more evil zombie dudes. And what's with that hunter following them anyways...?
Picking up a new man named Paul, who was sitting amongst the corpses of his comrads, the survivors make their last dash toward the next safe-room. They barely make it alive, but what comes next isn't going to be a picnic. A hunter by the name of Wolf has some plans, and it doesn't look good for the humans.
And for sure it was not. Ambushing the three survivors, Wolf's plan seemed to go off flawlessly. As the helpless men watch, the lustful zombie with a grudge rapes their comrade in a series of ways that makes Zoey wonder how 'terrible' this really was. Escaping with some help from Francis' built up rage stemming from some newly discovered feelings, the survivors now head closer and closer to Mercy Hospital where their rescue awaits. But, the zombies roaming around there won't appreciate their company.
Now safe inside the safe room wall of Mercy Hospital's main floor, the survivors take a well deserved break. After fighting zombies, finding Hunter Wolf nearly dead, fighting more zombies, encountering a large behemoth of an infected (plus living through a beating from him) and recruiting a new member, tensions are slowly beginning to wear thin. Francis and Zoey spark something between their mutual exhaustion and begin to fatally rely on each other. Paul is quietly going insane, pinning for his lost wife and seeing her in visions. But a new member has joined the ranks; Kass, a mysterious girl who appeared at the red steel door after the survivors escaped from the tank. Another human attempting to escape extinction, but is she going to be able to survive the emotional crash?
Chaos. Among lives, among emotions and among the hospital. With the final stretch ahead of them, the survivors continue to add to their numbers as the weeks continue to pass by. Paul slowly sinks further and further in to the dark abyss that continues to call his name. Kass, infatuated with keeping Paul sane, continually is confronted by her past as more and more survivors from the infection emerge from her memories. A new cocky man named Joey that is surely going to get dropped off the roof of Mercy Hospital, the cold young Erik confused between what he has been and what he is to become and the dog Tucker. But is backtracking to find the owner a safe idea with the tank lurking about?
So many secrets, barely enough time to live. The helicopter rescue is just beyond that red door.
After narrowly escaping the rooftop of Mercy Hospital and losing their comrade Joey to insanity, the survivors make their way by helicopter to safety. That is, until their pilot turns infected and the helicopter crashes in the middle of a lake, which is also coincidentally in the middle of nowhere.
Exhausted and broken the survivors nearly give up, but end up pushing on. After wandering for weeks and nearly perishing in the wilderness, they hijack an empty police car and book it down the nearest highway to the town of Riverside, where it is said the military has prepared a rescue. On the way the car runs out of gas, stranding the undying souls un the middle of a bunch of infected and a whole new playground.Taking their first steps out of the car they quickly meet up and join forces with Rogan, the boy who came out of nowhere. The band of survivors whose lives were forever changed by the infection struggle on in hopes that this time the road would be much easier...
But it is never that easy...
