I was making good progress considering my state. The pain kept reminding me to go slower, but I pushed myself further. Now more than ever I wanted to be back cooped up in the bathroom, or even in my dorm room. Safe from zombies and men. Essentially, they were the same. Hungry monsters...
I found a few helpful items along the way; a bottle of vodka, another pistol and a few rounds of ammo. I climbed the stairs to what used to be the subway platform, and turned on my flashlight. It was hard to tell what had even happened here during the outbreak. Train cars were de-railed, tipped over and busted up. Bodies were strewn around like toys, and the smell was beyond disgusting. I pushed forward, climbing on to one of the trains and quietly making my way through, stepping around any bodies or sleeping infected I encountered. I was surprised nothing had attacked me yet. It was defiantly strange.
I walked past a large fire that smelled like it was burning off gas when I heard it; a hunter growl. The same familiar growl that prelude the attack in the apartment building. I crouched and raised my gun, preparing to be mauled from any direction.

After following for a while, she walks toward a table covered in ammo. She starts to collect ammo when a hunter jumps out of no where and lunges at her. Suddenly out of a strange instinct i lunge at the hunter that attempts to attack her and collide with him, knocking him to the ground. He jumps up quickly and shouts "What the fuck was that for asshole!" "She is mine, and if you want her you have to take me first!" So the hunter lunged at her once again and i again lunged at him, knocking him to the floor. "Ok asshole, you fucked with the wrong hunter!" He lunged toward me attempting to pin me to the floor, as most of us do, i quickly dodged him and slashed him in the back as he landed beside me. A grunt of pain and he tried to swipe me as well but missed terribly. I slashed him across the face and jumped on top of him as he hit the ground where i tore his head from his body with a single claw. I then began crawling toward the woman i had been following and said "Are you ok miss?" She seemed to not understand me so i spoke again "Are you alright miss?" Still she didn't seem to understand me. She simply looked me over trying to figure out why i wasn't attacking her. I was trying to figure out why she wasn't understanding me. I couldn't figure it out, i spoke to infected like nothing was wrong. Maybe the thing that infected my mind had damaged my speach or changed it to a different language. It didn't matter she seemed to be safe.

The two hunters brawled right before my eyes, and I was taken aback as to what I was supposed to do. I kept my gun pointed at them but did not shoot, in fear they would both come after me. One of the hunters quickly overpowered and killed the other, and then slowly crawled toward me, growling deeply. I backed up a few steps, afraid. Was it going to attack me? That was it; I was finished now for sure.
"Stay back!" I yelled, but it didn't seem to understand me. It kept moving forward. I remembered the other hunter that had nearly ripped my chest apart. I gripped my gun tighter, and then let loose a few rounds towards it, closing my eyes as I did.
I ended up flat on my back, the hunter on top of me, starring down. I had missed completely and was now vulnerable underneath the infected creature as it growled at me. But its bloody hands did not sink in to my flesh. He merely, sat on top of me and looked me over.
What in zombie world was going on?! Was it trying to save me?

As i laid on top of the woman, i peared into her eyes and saw the fear and confusion in them. I only wanted to subdue her or disarm her and this was the only way i knew how. When i realized where my hands were i quickly jumped off of her and backed away slowly then stood up and began walking toward her with my hands in the air. I knew she couldn't understand me so i simply wanted her to know i ment no harm and i for some reason only wanted to protect her. I slowly came to a stop a few feet from her and could smell the blood on her. I looked down and saw the blood stain on her pants and remembered what i had witnessed earlier. Then i realised why i was following her, I felt sorry for her and wanted her to feel safer. Then i also remembered my past and how i was beaten and eventually kicked out of my group of friends.

Strolling along the abandoned subway, it all flashed back to me. The day was Sunday. Me and my brother were walking down this exact subway. Back then, it wasn't so dark and gloomy.
It had started like every normal day. Me and my brother, out enjoying the sunlight that we so proudly owned. When a woman came rushing down the platform alone. With no one around to see, we jumped her, stole her purse, and ran. As we ran, I remember her crying, and shouting. "I hope you die a horrible death!" All I could hear that day, were the sounds of her sobbing. Echoing throughout my mind. My brother assured me that she didn't need the money, and that we needed it more. The money was spent on some food, and mostly alcohol.
The flashback left me, and I was back in this lonely tunnel, and my brother was no longer with me. I put my fingers to my temple, brushed back the anger I had been so longing to let out. I urged on. I came across an overturned train, and I noticed a medkid laying on the bench beside me. On the ground below it, was a woman. She reminded me of that woman on the fateful day. Beside her was a small dead child. No older than a year old. The baby had a bandage around his wrist, and leg. Apparently the mother had tried to help the child, at the cost of letting herself bleed to death. It had no helped, there was dried blood all around the womans body, and the child lay there. Motionless. Grabbing what was left of the medpack, I shoved it into my bag, and strode off.
Hearing a scream in the distance, I turned my walking pace into a fast stride. As I got closer, I recognized the scream. It was Zoey! She was yelling at something to get back. I broke into a sprint towards the location of the distress call.

The hunter was trying to tell me it was harmless? Raising his hands, walking forward slowly... but why??? I lowered my weapon and limped towards it. Scrambling through my backpack I pulled out a bag of chips, and offered it as a peace offering to the monster. Now, I had watched enough zombie movies to determine that this was all just some cunning trap set up to kill me, but for some reason it didn't feel like that. He could have killed me already, and he didn't. But then the same question returned. WHY?
"Can you... understand me...?" he did not reply, only returned with his own growls. I determined he couldn't but defiantly was trying to communicate with me. Suddenly I began to feel dizzy, gripping the edge of the table for support as I heard a horde approach us. As the zombies ran from each direction towards me, I raised my weapon and managed to empty the clip in to a few of them before collapsing to the ground. I then watched as the hunter demolished every zombie that came close to me, infected bodies beginning to pile up all around me. And when they were gone, he crouched beside me, tilted his head and looked at me while I lay on the ground beside my weapon.

Hearing gunshots I rushed faster. As I approached the scene, Zoey was crumpled on the floor. Defeated by a hunter. Maybe they had resorted to some different tactic besideds pouncing. Rushing forwards, I hurdled the table and shoulder rushed the hunter. He tumbled a few feet, and caught himself on all fours. He growled, and howled at me, but made no attempt to pounce or attack. Confused, I did not fire. I only stared, and reached behind me. I helped Zoey to her feet. Showing me gratitude, she returned the gratification by punching me in the face, and shouting at me to get off. I never took my eyes off the hunter.

The man i recognized from earlier had just come out of no where like the hunter i had just defeated. I decided to not pounce on him because of the woman. If it wasn't for her punching him in the face and screaming at him, i might have thought she was glad to see him. Which didn't make much sense since he was the one who had just recently violated her with another guy. I felt worried about her and felt sceptical of the man because of his previous actions. I just sat on the floor waiting for some sign from the woman to pounce on him.

Zoey placed her hands on her hips, and just eyed me with one eyebrow raised. She looked disappointed in me. "What? do you honestly trust the infected?!" She nodded, and walked over to the now sitting hunter. He looked like some kind of dog. Sitting on the ground, his legs stretched out in front of him, his hands in his lap. He just looked up at Zoey as she strode around him. He tore open the chips, and examined them. I could tell by the look on his face he recognized them, but had no interest in them. Zoey just laughed, and patted him on the head. Zoey strode on down the corridor. I followed close behind. As I passed the hunter, I placed my shotgun to his nose. "I'm watching you.." I whisper. Then continue down the corridor, watching him from a distance. He crawled close behind. But seemed to pose no threat.

After the less than convincing display of mocho I walked behind them waiting for a chance to kill something. I watched as we past gore covered floors and train tracks. We continued through the subway until we came to a table that had weapons on it. We had reached a dead end and had to go up stairs. They rushed toward the table as i walked into the other room on the opposite side of the tracks. When i got into the room i saw smoke sitting in a corner was another smoker, much like the one i had encountered earlier. It seemed to look at me and pay me no mind, I walked toward it. It had probably seem alot of my kind before, but it had never seen me. It would never know i was protecting a woman from him and our kind. I lunged at him and caught him off guard. The poor thing didn't stand a chance and never saw what i did to him coming. That wasn't my problem any more i had a job and for some reason i didn't want that woman to come to anymore hard than she already had.

Our newly befriended hunter was constantly disappearing and re appearing, looking satisfied with himself. He was protecting us for some reason, and it felt so odd to have the creature accompany us. As we slowly walked through what looked like some sort of underground area with support pillars for the floor on top of us, the dust and dirt began to invade my lungs and the coughing began. I had to stop for a moment, even though my movement was slightly hindered anyways and I wasn't moving all that fast. I caught my breath and stood up again, only to be snatched off of my feet and dragged in to a darker area of this already very dark place. Something was squeezing around me, chocking me, pulling me back. Then I felt clawed arms grab hold of me, squeezing me like a snake; squeezing the life out of my bruised body. I watched as at least a hundred zombies stood up from the mist as a man shouted out my name. Francis, he was startling them. But I couldn't yell back. It only took the groggy zombies a moment before they charged off at where I had previously been standing; where Francis probably stood now. I squeezed my eyes shut and began squirming in the infected trap that I was in, and he just squeezed harder still.

I heard a cough ring out in the darkened abyss of a room. I could not see a thing, but I knew there was someone here. Suddenly, I heard footsteps. Then, hundreds of them. Infected. Suddenly rushing me from my front and sides. Taking my shotgun like a baseball bat, I swung in every direction I could. "Come on! COME ON!" Throwing back the madness with every swing. Eventually they were all stumbling to reach me again. I took the time to call out to the hunter who had been following us around. "You, with the claws! I can hear a smoker around here coughing, FIND HIM!" Picking off random infected as I had been so partial to doing, I pointed off in the direction of the coughing. I heard a leap come from behind me. I expected to be hit square in the back. In stead, I heard a rush of wind go above my head, and pounce off into the darkness. Shoulder rushing one of the infected, I ducked under a few more. Blasting away at their legs. Thrusting my shotgun behind me, the back of my gun made a nice loud CRACK against the skull of another infected. Taking careful aim with the pistol I had found not 10 minutes before, I slowly pumped shot after shot into the infected skulls that were still standing. Reloading my clip with such speed and accuracy, I returned fire with no pause inbetween shots. When the last infected was standing in front of me, I looked him up and down. Despite that I had just taken out at least 4 dozen of his comrades, he was still lurching towards me. Holding up the shotgun with one hand, I held it out in front of me. As the zombie stepped up in line to his demise, a final blast rang out in this dusty old room. Then, his head was gone. Smiling at my work I looked around for a sign of the girl, and her trusty companion.

As i saw the infected horde coming closer and closer i readied myself for a fight then i heard a cough. Then heard the large man shout something and knew what he meant. I charged into the horde and clawed a few of them down as i ran toward the sound of the smoker. I saw him in a corner holding the woman in his tongue and lunged out toward them i pounced first on her to free her, then i clawed the smoker slashing what was left of his tongue off and down to the floor. I jumped on top of him and slashed his face, then slashing one of his arms off i grabbed it and beat the smoker into the corner he was standing in. After tearing his other arm from his body i threw the arms to the ground and quickly grabbed his head digging my claws deep into his skull pulling his skull in half to stare at the punctured brain of the smoker. It was pinkish green with signs of infection abound. I threw the pieces of the smokers skull to the ground and watched as his body fell lifelessly to the ground. I looked toward the woman i had just saved again from a smoker. She lay there seemingly incapacitated from her ordeal. I looked her over and saw the slash marks on her shoulders and back from where the smoker had clawed her. "If only i had heard him sooner, this would not have happened." I looked down to the smoker and kicked the dead body in anger. I slowly walked around the woman, trying to figure out what to do. When i heard the thump of the man coming from behind me.

Running up to Zoey, I placed my finger to to her neck. She was still alive. Picking her up with my arm, I slung her over my shoulder with ease. Walking with her over my shoulder, I was still able to weild my shotgun with one hand. Pushing through the dark room, I eventually found some stairs. Laying her down on the ground, I tore her shirt off, and pulled out my medkit. Patching and cleaning out the wounds she had just so brutally recieved. Making sure that every cut and bruise was cleaned out and patched up well, I sat back. Taking the bottle of cold water out of my bag, I doused a rag and placed it to her head. Then splashing some on my hand, I flicked water onto her face in an attempt to wake her.

I thought I was dead after blacking out watching a hunter pounce at me. When my body fell to the ground all I felt was the remaining air in my lungs escape, and then everything was black for a moment. I could feel my limbs being moved, and could only imagine what the infected were doing to me. Then, I felt cool water on my face, and it forced me back in to reality. I opened my eyes to see Francis looking over me, his face creased with worry. I smiled. "Shit, those guys really tore me up." I tried to sit up and he helped me. My shirt was open, but not because Francis had the dire need to look at my breasts one final time, but because he had patched up my wounds and stopped the bleeding. I smiled. "Thank you..." "Don't mention it." He helped me stand and handed me my pistol. I had lost my uzi in the commotion. "Let's get going." He smirked. I pulled away and began walking on my own, taking only a moment to regain my balance. I felt a lot better now, and wondered if he had given me some sort of morphine?
We ascended more stairs and walked in to a room with two generators in it. it looked like some sort of warehouse. There were no zombies in sight, so the two of us (and the hunter) proceeded in. The zombies that had been in here were probably the ones who ran down and attacked us. I walked over to the medicine cabinet and discovered it had already been pilfered through, and there was nothing useful for us to take. "There has to be some sort of way out. We're sitting ducks in here."
